Dude. Ok. So, Friday night, I’m seeing “Funny People.” The trailer for a film called “It Might Get Loud” comes on.
Jimmy Page. The Edge. Jack White.
In a documentary about rock music.
Commence Sean-nerd-out. Holy lord. I had heard about some documentary involving these guys a while back, but had completely forgotten it. This trailer excited me more than you could believe.
Page made “Black Dog.”
Edge made “New Year’s Day.”
White made “Level.”
This movie is gonna be incredible.
The three players have such contrasting styles: Page assaulted the blues and basically created the genre of heavy metal. The Edge was always in control of his sound and shaped it differently - and perfectly - for every song. Jack White plays with a Neil Young-esque intense desperation, and is pushing the boundaries of guitar-playing at a time when no one else is really making any moves.
The movie opens August 14 in NYC and LA. Needless to say I’m bummed I will not be in either one of those cities on August 14. Looks like it’s coming out in the Bay Area two weeks later on the 28th.
Til then, guess I’ll have to make due: http://www.sonyclassics.com/itmightgetloud/
