I posted an article a couple of months ago on t t j m d about my buddy Austin Schumacher’s band Burn Down The Mission. He’s also in two other pretty sweet musical projects.
The first is the mash-up duo Indian Giver, which I will write about in due time…
The second is his band Reckless Sons. Austin once again takes his spot as drummer with this quartet out of New York City. These guys are a straight-up rock and roll band: loud bluesy guitars, pounding drums, unapologetically wailing vocals. The group puts it all together to create an outstanding blues-rock sound; immediately reminiscient of bands like The Black Crowes and Jet.
This just in: the Reckless Sons played their guts out last week to win Free the Noise: A Global Search for the Next Great Rock N’ Roll Band, hosted by Spin Magazine and fashion designer John Varvatos. The venue was Varvatos’ store at 315 Bowery in NYC; the old home of the legendery rock venue CBGB (Whose full name is CBGB & OMFUG which is short for “Country Bluegrass Blues and Other Music For Uplifting Gormandizers.” “Gormandizer” usually means a ravenous eater of food. Who knew.)
Reckless Sons took the top spot at the venue-formerly-known-as-CBGB last Tuesday, beating out The Howlers (Santiago, Chile), The Fast Romantics (Calgary), and the Scrambled Eggs (Beirut, Lebanon). The group is now hooked up with a development deal with Island Def Jam and will be featured in the upcoming ad campaign for Varvatos USA International. Pretty sweet gig.
“But Sean, how do I find out MORE about Reckless Sons?” Well gee whiz, I’m glad you axxxed.
